09 May 2018 SMART Recovery Australia wishes to express our sincere congratulations to Leanne and the WA mental health team for winning the Families – Excellence in Working with Families and Carers category of the WANADA (Western Australian Network of Alcohol & other Drug Agencies) awards.. Leanne and her tireless, hard-working team won their award for administering Be SMART support groups for parents & family members through Parent and Family Drug Support. The Be SMART program is designed to help those who may not be dealing with addiction issues themselves, but are supporting a loved one who is. The program, modelled on SMART Recovery’s principles of strength-based, person-centred care, uses cognitive behavioural therapy and the 5-step method to encourage supporters to care for and value themselves. Be SMART has clearly been a roaring success in Western Australia and we look forward immensely to working with Leanne and her team for many years. Research
